THE 200 was designed and built, utilizing the expertise of Consumers
Energy strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that
matter most: energy savings for the building and each Apartment Resident, CO2
emissions reduction, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their consequences
of their impacts. The LEED framework
served as the blueprint for identifying and implementing practical and
measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance
solutions. THE 200 embraced LEED principles which are categorized in five basic
areas: Sustainable Sites, Water Efficiency, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials
and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality.
THE 200 building developers and Consumers Energy have worked together
since the building’s design stage to integrate the latest in clean energy
solutions, including a rooftop solar array, energy storage, electric vehicle
chargers, smart thermostats and smart water heater devices. Simultaneously
orchestrating these solutions at THE 200 building to optimize the building’s
overall demand will help Consumers Energy study how to maximize benefits to
residents and the entire grid and provide enhanced resiliency.
Consumers Energy’s leadership is
exhibited as illustrated in the encouragement of their hometown to become the
clean energy capital of the country. Jackson was honored for the third time in
three years for its work to reduce energy waste as measured by the ENERGY STAR® Certified
Program. This year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced that
in 2019 Jackson was the Number One most ENERGY STAR-Certified Small City in the
nation.
